3 Teen Weight Loss Tips That Really Work

By Scott Brooks Today, teenage obesity is an increasingly serious problem however, there is plenty that you as a parent can do to help your teen with his or her weight problem. The implementation of intelligent, healthy eating habits is extremely vital to the well-being of our teens. Although there is no magic formula to helping your teen lose weight, the real key to achieving success is by helping them to lead a healthier lifestyle that can be carried into adulthood. Below are a few tips that parents can use when dealing with their overweight teen. 1. Do not use quick fixes in order to achieve rapid weight loss. Help your teenager by training them to lose weight, and keep it off. Many fad diets around are likely to rob your teenager of necessary vitamins, iron and calcium that is necessary in their diet. Dont permit them to take diet pills or perform other quick remedies, as this will not deal with the basis of the problem, and the effects of these types of treatments are short-lived. It is also important to remember that only lasting changes in their eating habits will result in permanent weight loss. 2. Elevate the amount of exercise your teen does. Like any adult, a teen needs to do about 60 minutes of exercise every day, but this does not mean they have to do it all at once. They can, instead do the activity in increments during the day enabling them to burn off any excess calories or fat. Sport activities, which most teens do at school or at a local gym, is a great way for your teen to get active. However, if your teen is not an athlete, or realizes that it’s too exhausting to participate in certain sports, then encourage him or her to walk, cycle or skate to and from school, or just to walk several times around the school before classes begin. Why not suggest that they spend at least one hour a day away from the computer and do something a little more physical (may be you can get them to take the dog for a walk)? Encouraging your teen to do household chores like mowing the lawn or washing the car will provide cardiovascular benefits as well. 3. Make sure that your teen eats a nourishing breakfast. If you have a teenager who discovers that its too difficult to wake up, try to get them up a a bit earlier than usual in order for them to eat breakfast. How many times have you heard people say breakfast is the most important meal of the day? A nutritious breakfast that is high in protein and fiber provides teens with energy, boosts their metabolism, and will provide the energy they need to face the day ahead. You may also find that it discourages them from eating too much during the rest of the day as well. If your teen is not crazy about high fiber cereal or whole wheat toast, then suggest they eat what was left over from the night before. You could even recommend a piece of cheese, a small handful of nuts and a piece of fruit instead, this will be just as healthy as the toast and cereal. Did you find these tips helpful? A Brief Introduction to Laser

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Liek_Sari_Handikin] Liek Sari Handikin The word “laser” is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser is an absolutely outstanding inventions of the last century. It has become a valuable tool in various fields, including medicine. Laser is a light source, but different from the traditional light source, it is not used for illumination purposes. Laser light is the result of a process called stimulated emission. Stimulated emission occurs when an incoming photon stimulates an excited atom so that it emits a photon identical to the incoming photon. The incoming photon has to have a wavelength (i.e. energy) which is identical to the energy which the atom will release when it falls from the excited level to a more stable one. The use of laser in medicine is clearly evident. I have used laser for the purpose of surgical and non-surgical procedures, mostly in otorhinolaryngology head & neck surgeries. The results were significant, i.e. minimal bleeding in minimal invasive surgery. From what I have experienced, I concluded that laser is the therapeutic modality which is beneficial in numerous medical conditions. Of course, it promotes better quality of life and affect humankind, especially through biostimulation and anti-inflammatory effects of low power laser. To know more about lasers and how it is being used in medicine, keep yourself posted to [http://laser-med.blogspot.com/ ] http://laser-med.blogspot.com/ It is open for discussions and brainstorming on laser medicine for anyone who is interested. Registered Nurse Jobs

By Charles Fuchs It sometimes may seem like there are pages in the classified ads every Sunday for registered nurse jobs. In fact, registered nurses now constitute the largest healthcare occupation, as there are over 2.3 million jobs available. If you are looking to get into a growing field where you are in the driver’s seat with employment and salary choices, it may be that becoming a registered nurse is a good option for you. What is a registered nurse and why are there so many registered nurse jobs out there? A registered nurse is one that has a college degree (Associates or Bachelors degree) from an accredited institution and has passed his or her nursing boards. Required classes to get a degree so that you can qualify for registered nurse jobs include anatomy, physiology, chemistry, nutrition, and behavioral science classes like psychology. Most schools require clinical experience, and this experience will also help you when you are looking for registered nurse jobs. Education and experience are key components to certain registered nurse jobs. If you are considering registered nurse jobs in administration, you may want to consider getting a Bachelor degree, as many organizations now require it. Sometimes if you are considering registered nurse jobs in more complex areas like surgery or neo-natal intensive care, organizations will want you to gain significant clinical experience. Also, other registered nurse jobs may even require you to have a masters degree, like being a nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, or certified nurse anesthetist. Registered nurse jobs require a lot of patience and dedication, as a registered nurse will be promoting good health, prevent disease, and helping patients through times of illness. Registered nurse jobs also require you to be detail oriented and have decent writing skills. For instance, registered nurse jobs in psychology will require a nurse to document (in detail) behavior, response to medication, and follow doctor directions carefully so that a patient receives the appropriate care. If you are qualified or looking to be qualified for registered nurse jobs, then you should be pleased that the job outlook for registered nurse jobs is very high. In fact, registered nurse jobs are expected to grow faster than the average growth for all other jobs through the year 2012. Registered nurse jobs in hospitals is expected to remain the same, though registered nurse jobs in nursing care facilities is expected to grow exponentially as the baby boomer generation ages. Other areas in which registered nurse jobs are expected to increase is home healthcare and outpatient care centers. The growth for these registered nurse jobs may be due to technological advances and pressure from insurance companies to avoid in-patient hospitalization. Many advances in medicine have created registered nurse jobs in which RNs travel to patient homes to provide care or perform procedures in outpatient facilities. Oil And Vinegar In Glass For Your Health, And A Grape Cruet For Your Mom

By James Zeller Dispensing Oil and Vinegar on the table has been cumbersome over the years. Many different styles of cruets have been made for just this one need. Proper storage of olive oil is necessary for the quality and taste to remain pristine and the nutritional benefits to remain intact. Over the centuries, oil and vinegar cruets have been made out of numerous materials. We now know the best containers for storing olive oil and vinegar are glass, ceramic, or porcelain. It is important to know plastic containers are not ideal for either condiment. To keep fresh flavor longer, olive oil and aged vinegar should be stored in a cool place away from sunlight. The most optimum would be in a glass container. Oil or vinegar should not be stored in a plastic container because they may absorb PVC’s from the plastic. Glass oil and vinegar cruets are exceptional gift items. They function as an optimal way to properly store your olive oil and vinegar, and are becoming increasingly popular. Today, gourmet culinary utensils and products are sought after for practicality and novelty. A gourmet gift is usually one of value and quality, these being essential for the perfect gift idea. Cruets.com offers hand blown glass cruets from Europe that have glass within glass containers. One inner vessel holds the vinegar, and the outer vessel stores the olive oil. Each glass cruet has two pour spouts on the same oil and vinegar dispenser. The hand blown glass containers are elegant in style and offer a sophisticated way to offer oil and vinegar on the table, from the same decanter. The Grape Cruet, which features a hand blown glass grape cluster vessel, inside a glass cylindrical body, is widely popular for gourmet kitchens. The grape cruet is about the diameter of a wine bottle and is easily used with one hand. You will see them more and more on fine dining tables of some of Americas best gourmet restaurants. Oil and vinegar stored in the Grape cruet, will keep a long time. The olive oil will keep over a year as long as tight fitting corks are used. Keeping both oil and vinegar air tight is crucial to retaining flavor. The Grape Cruet has a stunning design that is magnified when the olive oil is filled inside the glass. The glass artistry is tasteful and makes an elegant statement on any dinning table. The perfect gift for the holidays, the Grape Cruet features: Heat-resistant technical grade European glass Beautifully unique hand blown glass design. Two functional glass within glass vessels to separate your oil and vinegar. Made to be durable dispensing olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar. Airtight custom bartop cork stoppers for both spouts. European craftsmanship and quality. The Grape oil and vinegar Cruet is one of the most innovative and functional decanters you will find for dining. Its remarkable design is sure to catch the eye of all of your guests while making a tasteful and elegant statement on your dinning table. A gourmet gift set featuring a grape cruet with imported olive oil and Modena balsamic vinegar makes an ideal gift for any occasion including housewarmings and holidays. Plus, it’s an interesting conversation piece that will talked about over and over. James Zeller writes for gourmet gift related websites such as Cruets.com . Here is a selection of oil and vinegar cruets that he found, and a creative collection of culinary gourmet gifts. Holistic Health and Healing: A Common Sense Approach - Healing Happens Naturally

By Michael McCright It all starts with PREVENTION! All too often, we as individuals come to believe that illness, disease, sickness and injury just happen to us and that some outside source forces itself upon us. Its at that time that we decide that we must do something special to fight for our health. Sometimes it appears that whatever has happened will continue to plague us forever and perhaps it may. It all depends on how far down the disease continuum we have allowed ourselves to progress. Whoever said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure was absolutely correct and that age old axiom if Id known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself also applies. The state that our bodies are in will determine whether we will be able to be over that cold in 4 hours, 4 days or 4 weeks. It will determine how fast a broken bone will mend. A broken bone will normally mend itself in a couple of months, with most of the pain and discomfort gone within the first month. The state that our bodies are in will determine the length of recovery time after a surgery or hospital stay. Difficulties in the healing process develop when the body does not have the elements that it needs to complete the task at hand. Another way of saying it is that a person has allowed the body to fall into a state of lack. Lacking an essential vitamin, mineral, amino acid, oxygen molecule, etc. will make the body rob from Peter to pay Paul. It will take something from another part of the body that it considers less important (at the moment) and use it to fulfill critical needs. A good example is when the blood becomes too acidic and needs some calcium to neutralize the acid and get back to an alkaline state. If we have plenty of calcium available in the body, great! However, if we dont, then the body will take it from the bones (the bones make a great storage place for calcium). This is known as osteoporosis and it makes sense that it could be a factor in osteoarthritis. How and why did it happen? The answer is simple, we did not keep the body in a balanced state by providing it with the building blocks it needed for continued health. Another sad fact that becomes apparent is that we probably werent even aware that the event happened. Lets say I was going to make an outstanding chocolate cake and the recipe required the following ingredients: 2 cups white sugar 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda1 teaspoon salt2 eggs1 cup milk1/2 cup vegetable oil2 teaspoons vanilla extract1 cup boiling water But lets say I only had 1 cup of brown sugar, cup of chocolate chips and teaspoon of vanilla, plus all of the other ingredients. How good is my chocolate cake going to be? It might look OK, but chances are the person eating it is going to be surprised at the taste. You cant bake a cake or run the body without providing everything thats needed. By the same token, it is wise not to add ingredients for either the cake or the body that are not required. I dont think if I added two ounces of Oregano that it would help the cake taste any better. I still wonder why people feel a need to put tar, carcinogens, and nicotine (a poison) into the body thinking that in some way it helps them. The body is the most amazing chemical factory ever devised. The body produces energy, distributes the fuel required for functioning, neutralizes toxins and removes them from the body so that further contamination cannot take place. The sad part is that most people take all of this for granted. They seem to care less about the foods they eat, the liquids they drink and the junk they use to feed the body. They are clueless about how difficult it is for the heart to do its job every day. If your resting heart rate is 80 beats per minute, take that times 60 minutes in a hour, and that times 24 hours in a day and you have your heart beating 115,200 times every day! Through activity and exercise you can strengthen the heart and its resting rate will drop. Lets say you lower your resting heart rate to 72 beats per minute. Using the above calculations, your heart would only have to beat 103,680 times per day saving you 11,520 beats. I dont know how to calculate the energy savings of those 11 thousand beats but your body could definitely use that energy somewhere else — perhaps in the immune system to fight off that cold we talked about. Another system of the body that gets slammed quite regularly is the pancreas, which is the organ responsible for producing insulin. Insulin keeps the blood sugar levels in the blood stream within certain limits. A can of Coke has 39 grams of sugar in it and a can of Pepsi has 41 grams of sugar in it. If we understand that 4 grams equals one teaspoon, or that each soda has around 10 teaspoons of sugar, then we can understand the headline: One Soda a Day Increases Diabetes Risk 85 Percent. Most people are unaware that diabetes is the fifth deadliest disease in the US. We create that situation for ourselves and by ourselves. If a wart were to grow out of our big toe one quarter of an inch for every teaspoon of sugar we consumed, we would probably stop after drinking about one half a can. But because we experience no outward side effects we continue to do what we have always done. We talked about activity and exercise being able to help the heart, but that is not the only benefit. As we stress the cells of the body by working them, they become more efficient at producing energy. They move oxygen and nutrients into the cells with more ease and rid the cells of toxic waste. Of course, as our cellular efficiency becomes greater, our ability to ward off disease and sickness becomes greater. We sleep better at night, and have more serenity and less stress in our lives during the day. My hope is that while reading this article, some little ah-ha popped out — that something made sense on a gut (action level) and not just on a mental (agreement) level. The true key to living a long full disease-free life is prevention. I pray that you will do those things that will allow you to move into a healthy state of being. Remember, if you want to be healthy, do what other healthy people do. Michael McCright is a Holistic Health Practitioner, educator, coach, and motivational speaker. How to Choose the Best Virginia Workers Compensation Attorney or Lawyer

By Jerry Lutkenhaus After many years in the field as a comp attorney, I have the following suggestions for finding the Best Virginia Workers’ Compensation Lawyer. First, check and see if the attorney lists himself or herself as a specialist in the Yellow Pages in Virginia Workers’ Compensation Law. However, your inquiry should not stop here. Second, check and see if the attorney has been rated by Martindale-Hubbell, an organization that rates attorneys according to how their peer groups have rated them. In their guide an “AV” rating is highest, the middle rating is “BV,” and the lowest rating for attorneys just starting out is “CV.” You should ask the attorney for his/her Martindale-Hubbell rating. An “AV” rated attorney means that the attorney’s peers has recognized the attorney as having the best qualifications. Third, you should check the attorney’s web site. Does the attorney hold himself/herself out as a specialist in Virginia workers’ compensation law. Does he/she have helpful information about Virginia workers’ compensation law on his/her web site? Does he/she list any case results? Fourth, you should ask the attorney if he/she belongs to the Virginia Trial Lawyers’ Subcommittee on workers’ compensation. Almost all attorneys who specialize in workers’ compensation law in Virginia are members of this subcommittee. Fifth, check with the Virginia State Bar at (804) 775-0570 to find out if anyone has filed any complaints against the attorney. If there is a pending complaint, then you should avoid this attorney. Sixth, you should ask the attorney for any brochures the attorney may have prepared about Virginia workers’ compensation. Seventh, you can check with your friends, your relatives and your doctor for recommendations. These are my suggestions based on 30 years in the field. This is how you find the Best Virginia Workers Compensation Lawyer. No Contract Cell Phone Plans

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Max_Bellamy]Max Bellamy The cell phone market fluctuates frequently with new innovations in technology. The arrival of new models and plans make older plans obsolete. It is therefore important to compare cell phone plans and their status in the market. Some of the aspects to look at include ‘no contract’ cell phone plans, prepaid plans and postpaid plans. The major benefit of a ‘no contract’ cell phone plan is that the subscriber does not need to enter into a contract. Choosing a cellular phone contract is very challenging. Signing a contract forces the customer to look into the future and decide how useful the plan will be. Most contract plans are available on month-to-month or one-, two- or three-year contracts, with a monthly fixed charge. ‘No credit’ plans are useful for those who have poor credit history. Most of these plans do not make a credit check. While the majority of plans do not need security deposits, a few monthly plans require it. These plans are great for students, teenagers, travelers and businessmen. Examples of ‘no credit’ plans are prepaid cell phone plans and ‘pay as you go’ cell phone plans. With prepaid plans, the subscriber pays for his minutes before he uses them. There are no monthly bills or hidden fee. Prepaid connections are normally preferred by those on a tight budget. These plans are quite affordable and good options in emergencies. They often offer discounts, a starter phone card or other smart benefits. Subscribers find them suitable because they do not have to sign a binding monthly contract. For beginners, there is no monthly bill or contract with the ‘pay as you go’ cell phone plans. The caller does not need a credit card, either. One can easily buy a phone card from the market, which is similar to giving the carrier money towards your account. The caller only needs to put $20 credit to the account every 90 days to keep the plan active. A hybrid plan is another variety of ‘no contract’ cell phone plans. The advantages are no contracts, no credit card requirements and no deposits.
